A glimpse inside the barrel house ‘recording studio’ – cleavers! hammers! big drums! – and a small musical taster too. Can’t be long now …

Trio Tour Video from March 2011

One I missed during the blog hiatus. Medley of behind-the-scenes video from the spring trio tour with Benji Kirkpatrick (bouzouki, guitar) and Cormac Byrne (percussion, bodhran). Warning: new song spoilers, but also fun footage of Seth messing about in a violin shop leading to definitely the strangest rendition of Lady of the Sea to date.

The New Album…

Seth talks to Spiral Earth about forthcoming sixth album Tales from the Bower Barrel House, which Seth has not only recorded himself but on which he also plays all the instruments. The album will be released this Autumn, all going well.

Behind-the-scenes “diary” of the shoot for the Hearts and Minds video. Seth and his small film-crew travelled across Dartmoor and up to Bath and Bristol playing ‘Hearts & Minds’ to unsuspecting members of the public, and dropping in on the odd folk club. You can read reports from the shoot from some of the fans who met them right here on this blog.

With backing music from a selection of tracks from the new album

Remember a while ago they asked for fan questions on Facebook for a forthcoming interview? Well, here are the results…

Video: Hearts and Minds Teaser

10 minute video highlights from Cropredy 2007 marking 40 “Glorious” years of festival organisers and folk-rock path-beaters, Fairport Convention.

Seth appears dead on the 4mins mark with extracts from a couple of tracks, talking about Fairport as an influence on him, and providing a useful excuse to share here. Do watch the whole thing…

The video is by Mike Rowbottom and is extracted from the longer DVD Fairport@Forty. This year’s Cropredy Festival (sans Seth) is on Thu 12 – Sat 14 August.

"The moment had come. For the first time in, possibly 5 years, Seth was back sharing a stage with Cara and the other Lakeman brother, Sam" – Mary Stokes

St Patrick’s Day last week saw Seth back on stage with brother Sam and sister-in-law Cara Dillon for the first time since he left their band to embark on his own solo career. Mary Stokes reviewed the gig for ReviewArtists.com and other fans were there to capture the magic night on video for the rest of us to enjoy.

Spencer the Rover

Seth and Cara perform Spencer the Rover from her award-winning album, Hill of Thieves. There’s another version from Thief123 here on YouTube along with plenty more fantastic videos from the night.
